The first consideration is game name versus organization name.
We should consider registering the name we choose as a trademark. Does anyone know how to do this and what it costs?
Organizations names
- AlterSpace - Unfortunately this name is already taken as AlterSpace.com. There's little on that Web site, but they've clearly marked the word AlterSpace as a trademark (TM, not to be confused with TheMiller), so perhaps it's best to steer clear of this name.
- NegativeZero - Large web presence. Plus it's already take by some stupid cybersquaters.
- NegaZip - a play on NegativeZero. Doesn't show up at all in Google.
- NegativeSix - This has the advantage of very little (or no) web presence. We want those google searches to find us!
- AlterSpace Simulations - alterspacesim.com is available!
And the winner (for now) is ...
- SpookyDistance.com - As in "spooky action at a distance", a phrase used in reference to quantum effects that are difficult to explain. Quote attributed to Einstein. See e.g. http://unisci.com/stories/20002/0427001.htm.
Game names
- SquirtSpace - Kinda silly, but relates to an idea I have for interstellar travel. Basically, point ship in direction to go, adjust speed for distance, then build a field up that allows the ship to "squirt" through the alterspatial dimension. Where you land depends on your velocity vector, and mass when you squirted. Kinda like a watermelon seed...
- Quantum Entanglement - Goes together with Spooky Distance.
Istvan: I'd hold off on naming the game until scope, extent, and some of what's supposed to be going on in the game environment have been hashed out. Then grab something characteristic. I'd like to use the handle "SDx" to refer to the game for the time being.
